Crazy Names

posted Friday, 2 March 2007

My mom is about 1/32nd Choctaw Indian.  I guess to be politically correct I should say American Indian.  My dad used to tell us three girls that he was a Walkie Talkie Indian.  I don't know where he got that from.  He just made it up like he did a lot of other things!  Anyway, I think he used to say that made my sisters and I Walkie Talkie Chaws.  What a silly guy.  I've always thought that my dad and my husband must be related because they are both so crazy!

My dad also made up silly names for his five grandchildren.  They are Amy Cramey, Lee Tree, Levi the Horsefly, Jared the Carrot, and Will the Pill.

Some people in my husband's family were kind of crazy too.  His mother's dad used to tell the grandkids that his name was really Leander Columbus Orner Rinkus Gum Sunkson Akin Fleacher, not Leander Columbus Wilson.  According to Bill's oldest sister that is what their grandfather called himself.  Another sister says he called himself Leander Columbus Ornis Thorkus Rinkus Gum Sunkson Akin Fleacher.  Either way, he must have been crazy some of the time like the rest of the people I've talked about!

we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.  Psalm 100:2 - 3

Bwaahaaa! Cute post. What's in a name? The only grandpap I remember was my mom's step-dad. He was a good guy. He came from Italy. He worked on the railroad. His step kids called him Subblot...because he worked where there was a sub station. I remember him stomping grapes in his bare feet to make wine. I also remember him cutting his hedges with a sickle. He had the best looking hedges in town.

I think Daddy was "Walkie Chocy" and we said we were "Walkie Double Chocy Taw". Just like Bill's sisters with different recollections.
