My husband says that it was good that we spent the first two and half years away from family and friends. We had a chance to establish our relationship on our own, and I couldn't "run home to mama." I agree with him. However, as I've gotten older, I've missed family more. I guess that is normal. I realize that I won't live forever on this earth, and that makes time with loved ones very precious. I'm not saying that we didn't enjoy the places that we have lived with the military. My husband's and my philosophy was to get involved with the church and communities where we were. Life is much too short to wish we were back with family and to miss where we couldn't be. So we tired to plunge in immediately when we moved to a new place. Because of that we have such awesome experiences and friends.
We lived in Cleveland for the first 3 years of our marriage. It was a 4
hour drive to get back home so we only made the trip once a month. The
distance helped me get use to doing things on my own. I was very homesick
though.
