Lax Discipline

posted Wednesday, 3 January 2007

For awhile, I was a substitute teacher at Baumholder High School.  I didn't like it very much because the discipline was so lax.  Every time I subbed, the kids acted like it was a holiday.  They would not pay attention to me.  The best class was physical education because the teacher had the students take roll.  They all knew what they were supposed do.  She was very organized.

One day I realized that things would never be easy.  I was subbing for a teacher who had a free period.  The school nurse was giving a class; I can't remember what it was about.  She asked me if I wanted to sit in on her class, so I sat in the back.  When the class began, she was sitting on the teacher's desk wearing her mini-skirt.  About 10 minutes into the class, a student came in late.  He sauntered in with a soda in his hand.  The school nurse didn't say word to him.  He just walked in and sat on the window sill.

After that, if the phone rang in the morning, I wouldn't answer it because I was afraid it would be someone from the high school asking me to sub.  I eventually resigned.  I never subbed or taught again.  If I ever teach again, I would want to teach in college.
