Update On Our Move to be Near Family

posted Sunday, 19 August 2007

It has been a while since I've given you an update on our move north.  Things are going very well.  Everything is on schedule, except for the sale of our house in the south.  We've had eight people look at the house.  One couple liked the house very much, but may have trouble qualifying for a loan.  I hope they do.

For the past month and a half, we've traveled up to the new house every other weekend.  My husband has been mowning the yard up there too.  We've been settling in by putting up towel racks, a shower rod and curtain in the second bath, and a paper towel holder in the kitchen.

There is a narrow window next to our front door.  I wanted to put something there that was easy to care for and give us privacy while letting some light come through.  I searched the Internet for vinyl cling for windows and found a frosted leaf design.  My husband and I put it up last weekend.  We also put it on the window in the laundry room.  I was afraid it would look cheap, but I think it looks pretty good.  We've put steel blue Roman shades on the two living room windows.  I want to put Roman shades on the rest of the windows, but we're still looking.

We have been unpacking boxes or getting them out of way ready for the furniture.  My husband broke up some of the empty boxes.

I'm arranging things in the kitchen, and then rearranging them.  I'm learning to cook on a flat-top electric stove.  Actually it is pretty easy, except for figuring out the timer and some of the other digital things.  I really like the big pantry.

I'm looking for a bedspread for our new king-size bed.  The bed is dark wood, so I think a white bedspread will look good.

We are going to put knobs on all the cabinet doors and drawers in the kitchen, two bathrooms, and laundry room.  We haven't bought them all yet, but I know which ones I want.

We ordered an Amish dining table with eight chairs.  It is to be delivered at the end of October.  It will be great when family comes to eat, which I hope will be often.

We'll be busy the next couple of weeks with farewell and retirement lunches and having our furniture moved.

By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.
And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need,
and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
