Time to Leave

posted Wednesday, 13 February 2008

In the spring of 1973, we found out that we were moving to Fort Hood, Texas.  It was our first move as a family with the military.  Over the years, I’ve come to realize that moving with the military is easier than moving on your own.  Of course, we had to go through things, throwing out or giving away possessions that couldn’t be packed, like plants, liquids, perishable foods, and flammable objects.

Sometimes when a family went back to the States, they gave us the things that they couldn’t take.  It was almost like Christmas.  It was fun to go through what they had left behind.  Most things we were able to use.  We passed on to yet another family the things that we didn't want or need.

I always had lots of houseplants.  It was sad to leave them behind after caring for them.  When we left Germany the second time (in 1982), I had a yard sale and sold my plants.  That helped ease the pain!

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God;
I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.
