My College Graduation

posted Friday, 30 June 2006

During the last nine weeks of college, I did my practice teaching in a town near where my parents and sister lived and about 2 hours from the C of O.  I taught middle school (seventh through ninth grade) girls’ physical education classes.  I don’t remember much about that time.  I was fortunate enough to get a job in the same school after I graduated and be near my family.  I knew about teaching jobs in Florida.  It crossed my mind to try to teach there, but it didn’t ever really appeal to me.

I graduated from college along with 95 others at 3 pm on Sunday, June 2, 1968, with a Bachelor of Science degree.  Here is a sentence from a newspaper article, “This class of 1968 is one of the most cosmopolitan groups to come out of the College, with representatives of 19 states and two foreign countries.”  It was a warm day, so I wore a thin pink dress under my robe.  How nice that my parents, two sisters, and my grandmother came to my graduation.

Here are two photos and my diploma.  After 16 years of school, it was now time to earn a living.

Cosmopolitan, that sound so sophisticated. I loved PE class. I think they may have taken PE out of the curriculm in today's schools. Which in my opinion is a big mistake. No wonder all our kids are over weight. Fast food and no excercise, kids today don't stand a chance.
