Happy Years

posted Friday, 21 March 2008

During our six years at Fort Hood, I kept a diary only part of the time—from October 1977 through January 1979, and I didn’t write in it every day.  Here is part of what I wrote on November 23, 1977, which pretty much sums up our time there, “I was thinking before this, now is the happiest I have ever been in my life.  I am taking the art course (something for me), square dancing (something for Bill and I together).  Kids are well and good.  No big money problems.  I am working on [church] newsletter.  Bill is an elder in church.  He golfs and plays racquetball.”

We lived in the duplex on Fort Hood about 5 1/2 years.  At that time, it was longest that I had ever lived in one house, and would be for a long time afterwards.  It was a good time and a busy time.  Having two children at home kept me busy.  I found that I was happiest when I did something for myself.  I took art classes at the local junior college.  Every Wednesday morning, our church had what was called Operation Friendship.  We did crafts, and there was a babysitter for the kids.

It was a happy time!

I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice,
and to do good in their lives, and also that
every man should eat and drink and
enjoy the good of all his labor--it is the gift of God.
