The Birth of a Baby Boy

posted Friday, 14 March 2008

I was very happy that we had a boy so Bill could have a son.  I also wanted to be able to carry on Bill’s last name, although it didn’t seem to matter too much to him because his parents divorce when he was only 10 months old, and he didn't know his father very well.  I wanted a brother or sister for our daughter Amy.  Most of all I wanted a healthy baby.

Here is what I remember about our son (Lee X) being born and my stay in the hospital.  I had the baby in a small hospital and received a lot of personal care.  My mom came from Arkansas to stay with Amy.  On the morning of December 14, I went into the delivery room to have Lee by caesarean.  The thing that I remember the most was my arms being spread out and tied down, you know, like being crucified.  I guess that’s why when I was coming out from the anesthesia that I asked if I was in hell.  It was the first time I remember being put completely under; I didn’t like it and never have.  It took forever for me to come completely awake, or maybe it just seemed that way.  My mom and Bill also told me that I had a boy, and I had a hard time believing them.  My mom and husband were with me and Lee when we came out of surgery.  So Lee was born at 9:41 am and weighed 7 pounds and 9 1/2 ounces.

I was in the hospital for about one week.  When it came time for the nurse to take out the stitches, she said it wouldn’t hurt.  She lied.

While I was in the hospital, I was taking antibiotics and pills to dry up my milk.  Afterwards I just took the pills, but developed hives.  So Bill and I spent about 6 hours of Christmas Eve at the emergency room.  While we were waiting, Bill said that the doctor would give me benadryl.  He was right.  The doctor didn’t even completely close the door, and I was in the office less than 5 minutes.

Just before Christmas, my dad and two sisters came down to visit.  So we all had Christmas in our little house.

Below are a couple of photos of Lee, one with his mom and the other with his big sister.

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts
to your children, how much more will your Father
who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
