You Decide

posted Monday, 13 August 2007

Today when my husband and I were out and about, I saw three people wearing t-shirts with messages on them.

At a restaurant I saw a slender, twenty-something woman wearing tight-fitting jeans.  Her t-shirt showed more than her midriff; you could see her pierced belly button.  Written on her t-shirt was "Porn Star in Training."  As she stood there, a young man about the same age passed her.  His shirt said, "Property of Jesus."

You've heard about the initials "WWJD?" that young people sometimes wear on their bracelets and clothes.  They stand for "What would Jesus do?"  And you've probably watched (or, like me, just heard about) those "Friday the 13th" movies with Jason wearing a hockey mask.  Later in a store, I saw a guy wearing a black t-shirt with the following on the front:  WW(drawing of a hockey mask)D?

I don't know if they are a reflection of our society at large.  Maybe they don't mean anything at all.  You decide.

Since I can't remember what we wore as youngsters... I can't say if it is worse or not. But I am glad it was a 20 something and not teenagers wearing them. It scares me with the Brat dolls and what I see 'marketed' for teens.

Porn Star in training, now that is sad. I like you hope this is not a reflection of our young people's aspirations. I love the WWJD T-shirts.
